For Danish industry, defence and security are emerging as central issues for the next parliament.

Denmark will hold elections on Tuesday, with 4.3 million registered voters.

According to a new poll by PwC, 43 percent of Danish companies view defence and security as the most important area for the incoming parliament to address.

This is followed by industrial policy and public finances at 42 percent and 38 percent respectively. Energy ranks fourth, followed by environment and climate.

Despite this, defence has been largely absent from political debate in recent weeks, with attention instead focused on immigration, housing and industrial pig production.

Within Danish industry, a notable shift in attitudes towards defence has taken place.

Over the past year, several companies have publicly supported what was previously seen as a controversial sector.

Businesses ranging from pension funds to family-owned industrial groups now openly back defence projects and investments.

Recent defence exhibitions have reported record attendance, a trend expected to continue at the DALO Industry Days in Herning in August.
